Fall and Winter Home Maintenance
It’s that time of year for pumpkin spice, firepits and s’mores! With the change in temperatures, comes fall and winter home maintenance. To make it simple, we’ve come up with an essential maintenance and safety checklist to get your property prepped for the fall and winter months!
Fall Maintenance Checklist:
- Have your HVAC checked by a professional. They can test the heating output and check carbon monoxide output levels.
- Change filters on HVAC so it runs efficiently.
- Check windows and doors for drafts and seal if leaking.
- Have your chimney or wood stove cleaned and inspected for safety.
- Check your fire extinguishers and replace if needed. Also, make sure your family knows how to use them.
- Check all smoke detectors and ensure that the batteries work.
- Go over your home fire evacuation plan with your family.
- Clean your gutters or hire a professional to do it. If your gutters get clogged, it can cause water damage near the roof and cause water to spill over and damage your home’s foundation or basement.
- Trim back any trees or branches that could potentially fall on your home in the event of ice or heavy snows.
- Check your roof for peeling or buckling shingles that need to be replaced.
Following this list could save you a lot of headaches in those colder months that can bring ice and snow. Fire safety is essential during the colder months, so make sure you have a plan and go over it with your family.
